Share
Enhancing your landscape’s curb appeal has never been easier than with the right tools and a little weekend effort. Whether you are looking to define a winding garden path or create crisp, clean lines for your flower beds, high-quality materials make all the difference. At Howell Pathways, we provide durable, eco-friendly solutions designed for both professional landscapers and DIY enthusiasts. In this guide, we will walk you through the simple steps of installing Bender Board® to achieve a polished, long-lasting look for your outdoor space.

Planning Your Landscape Design
Before digging, we recommend laying out your design using a garden hose or string to visualize the placement of your garden borders. This helps you determine where you need tight curves or long, straight runs. Marking the ground with landscape paint ensures your installation follows the intended path accurately. Planning ahead saves time and reduces material waste during the process.

Preparing the Trench
Once your design is set, we suggest digging a shallow trench along your marked line. For the best stability, the trench should be deep enough to bury about half of the board’s width. This prevents grass from creeping over and keeps the edging firmly in place. Removing rocks and roots from the trench ensures that your landscape edging sits perfectly flush.

Installing and Bending the Board
Place the board into the trench, starting from one end and working your way through. Because our product is made from 100% recycled plastic, it is incredibly flexible and easy to shape around tight corners. We recommend installing during warmer weather or warming the boards to at least 60°F. This makes the material more pliable for creating those signature, smooth-flowing organic curves.

Securing with Stakes and Finishing
To finish the installation, we use heavy-duty stakes driven into the ground on the interior side of the board. Space your stakes every few feet, or closer together on curves, and secure them with screws. Once the board is fastened, backfill the trench with soil or mulch to hide the stakes. This final step provides a professional, seamless look for your yard.
